Dacre Street

PJC Architecture LTD, Pringle Building Services LTD and Dacre Street Development LTD were nominated for their development of St James Place in the ‘Best High Volume New Housing Development’ category and became regional finalists at the 2017 LABC Building Excellence Northern Awards.

PJC Architecture were asked by their client, Pringle Building Services, to design and submit a full detailed planning application for the construction of 16 luxury apartments with associated parking and landscaping. The vacant plot on Dacre Street, Morpeth was the site of the former Howard Castle Residential Care Home which closed down in 2013.

The design of St James Place is traditional in appearance, high quality and features a typical Northumberland vernacular that sits well within the environment. Gables were chosen instead of hips to keep the building form in line with most other buildings in the area and also to help maximise the ceiling height on the top floor apartments.

The layout of the three apartment blocks had been designed so they are positioned to the rear of the site, approximately over the footprint of the existing buildings, meaning the visual character and quality of the site will remain unaffected.
